The garden was first mentioned in 1475 and became a meeting point for all important people living or visiting Florence in years around 1480. Among them were also all important Florentine artists (Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo,...). The garden was a kind of open gallery where a part of Lorenzo de Medici's collection of classical statues was placed (the main part of the collection was in his Palazzo). Young artists came into first contact with classical sculptures there and older ones renewed some of them. (Andrea del Verrocchio restored marble statue Flayed Marsyas for Lorenzo de Medici.)
