LUDOVICO SFORZA (1451-1508)
from 1494 the Duke of Milan; very well educated patron of artists. He invited Leonardo to work in Milan in 1482/83. He was known as Ludovico il Moro (called "Italico Morel, bianco Eremellino" / "Italian Moor, white Ermine" by Bellincioni), either because he was dark or because his second name was Mauro. He had received the insignia of the chivalric Order of the Ermine from the King of Naples in 1488.
