Arcimboldo, Giuseppe
(Milan, 1527 - Milan, 1593)
Italian
Giuseppe Arcimboldo was working in Italy (Milan Cathedral, cartoon for a tapestry for Como Cathedral) till 1562, when he moved to the imperial court in Vienna to work as a court portraitist and a copyist. In 1570 he departed to Prague to organize a tournament for the wedding of Elizabeth, the daughter of Maximilian II and Charles IX of France. Between the years 1570 and 1587 (when he returned to Milan) he worked for the court in Vienna and Prague (for Maximillian II and his son Rudolf II). He was appointed Palatine Count by Rudolf II in 1592.
