Jean Malouel, uncle of the de Limbourg brothers, was a painter at the Burgundy court (1397-1415). He worked for Isabella of Bavaria (1371-1435) before becoming court painter for the Dukes of Burgundy. Painters Jean Malouel, Henri Bellechose, Melchior Broederlam, Jean de Beaumetz and sculptor Claus Sluter worked on a decoration of the Carthusian monastery of Champmol (near Dijon), the biggest patronage work of Philip the Bold, finished after his death in 1415.
