Nicolas Trigault (1577-1628) was a French missionary. He arrived in China in 1610, preaching in Nanjing and Hangzhou. Two years later, he was sent back to Europe to present a Chinese Missionary report to Pope Paul V. On his second trip to China in 1618 he took 7000 books, mostly concerned theology and science but also philosophy, literature and art. He died in Hangzhou in 1628
He wrote History of Christianity in China which depicts besides history of missionaries also Chinese culture and society and An Aid to the Eye and Ear of Western Scholars. The books reached a great success and played an important role in spreading Chinese culture into the West.
