Inscription in inventory of the collection of Pulus Praun from Nuremberg in 1616 said: Picture of a man’s head in oil, one foot high by the hand of Albrecht Durer’s brother Hans. But the date on the picture rules Hans out as the author. Durer’s brother Hans who became a painter was born in 1490. The picture was so attributed to Durer as a portrait of his other brother Hans (Durer had namely three brothers with a name Hans). |
