There was probably also the third – central panel featuring a Virgin and Child, towards whom the gaze of both figures was directed. The same two persons (husband and wife) were depicted full-length in Memling’s Triptych of Saint Christopher (1484), which was commissioned by them for their chapel in St. James church in Bruges. |
