 | | | Trinity Pieta consists of the Man of Sorrows in the arms of God the Father and the Holy Ghost between them. It is common in French and Burgundian court painting from the end of fourteenth century onwards. The motif usually includes angels who are supporting Christ’s body or carrying instruments of Passion (a flagellation column, a scourge, a stick with a sponge and a lance).
This painting was most likely the left wing of a diptych with Mater Dolorosa on the right.
