 | | | The panel with Saint Barbara was the right wing of a triptych - Werl Altarpiece.
Two wings of the Werl Altarpiece were mostly attributed to Robert Campin, but latter discoveries of underdrawings in the left wing of the Werl Altarpiece and in the right wing of the Miraflores Altarpiece led to the conclusion that the author was Rogier van der Weyden. A striking resemblance between the (“before and after”) position of the hand of John the Baptist and the hand of the Christ indicates at the same painter of both panels. This theory was emphasized by a similarity between depictions of a pewter pitcher in the right wing of the Werl Altarpiece and in Weyden’s Annunciation. |
