Young Woman with Bound Hair
Albrecht Durer
about 1497
Oil on canvas, 55 x 42 cm
Berlin-Dahlem, Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Gemaldegalerie

 | | | Note: A second version of this painting in the Leipzig Museum der Bildenden Kunste is regarded as Durer’s original. There is no coat of arms of Furleger family (like on the first version) but there is legible inscription on the cartellino (inscription on the first version is no longer readable): This is my likeness at age 18, 1497. This age cannot be related to any member of Furleger family so the sitter is often identified with Katharina Frey, Agnes Durer’s sister.
It is very interesting if we put together this panel and Durer’s Self Portrait from 1498, which are almost the same size. They look like a dyptich (double portrait) together?!
